GPS-routes

Satellite-navigation

is not needed for the Hikes or Walks mentioned in this Website. But then, it's amazing what that small gadget is able to do and having "grown up" in the world of Telephone and Radio Communication and in IT it's great to use them. Beside, with the handy equipment I'm more conscious of "where is my position", "where is the next crossroads", what's the Height, the geographic position...
Users of GPS's although should not too much rely on the technical wonder. Especially in mountainous regions and in the woods, signals may be too week to be of any use for the receiver...

Definitions:

A track is a set of data, collected by the GPS unit automatically from a tour.
A route is a set of data ready to be used on a next tour. All the routes in this website are based on track data that were collected while walking that journey. Usually some modification are implemented.
Prefix: The idea of those three characters is to help to delete superfluous WP's selectively, and to make sure  old waypoints are not being overwritten by new ones.
Waypoints
: names beginning with TO- are crossroads, usually a  "Wanderweg" sign will be met at that position.
POI (points of interest) I'm making no difference to waypoints (WP)

GPS-Routes:

The only difference to the "normal" Routes may be, that for "GPS-routes" sometimes I'll use tracks that are not "official" Hiking tracks (not a "Wanderweg"). Those paths may be a bit muddier or more sturdy then the others, but nevertheless they are tracks.
Although I'm taking care with the GPS-data's, the responsibility for using them must remain on the side of the user.

Note:
It's not unusual that reception of satellite signals in valleys, along rockwalls, in wooded area is too weak for GPS navigation.

Before uploading Data into your GPS, make sure the (old) data in the GPS have been saved to the PC, otherwise they'll probably be overritten!

Mountain Peaks:

Often, having reached the top of a mountain and enjoying the Panorama, one would like to know the names of one peak or the other.
In the downloadable File "peaks_2.gdb", the positions of some 160 peaks, are contained as waypoints. (The "route" contains only waypoints, no route).
If you own a GPS with Compass, those waypoints can be used to set the "Compass needle" to the requested mountain peak.
Waypoints, contained in the file, are mostly Peaks that are visible from the area covered by my website, mainly the "Zugerland area". In the PDF-File there is a List of those Peaks.
The two files are zipped into GPS_Data/Peak_3.zip (contains list of peaks and the waypoints) or: GPS_Data/Peaks_WP.gpx

Instead of Wildspitz, we're passing Leiterfluhhuette on a unmarked track; then crossing over to the usual track, proceeding to Halsegg. At Hueritalhuette, after crossing the alp meadow and Hueribach, we're heading back to Schoenalphuettli on a excellent road.
Caution: a short part of the road is passing a zone with falling rocks!

For the track from Urzlen I included the alternative mud track (not on maps); sometimes the regular road can be closed due to damages after heavy rain.
