Zytturm

The Zytturm is not only a clock tower. It was the lookout for fire, the gate to the old town and it had two small prison cells as well.

The Zytturm Zytturm:   (The Watch tower). If you are feeling like doing something sporty, here is some challenge. Get the key in the nearby police station (you have to deposit a few Franks which you will get back after you returned the key) and climb the 100 plus steps. Mind your head! inside there is a collection of historic tools from the local fire brigade. The working clock is worth a visit too. The biggest reward of course is the view over the roofs of the old town and the lake. There is a large table and seats in the tidy room on top.

Views after climbing some 100 steps:

Zytturm, view from the cosy chamber Zytturm in the rear Oswaldkirche and nearby Burg
View from the room atop

Zytturm, view over Altstadt Zytturm, small space not for dogs, but for prisoners
Pretty view for guests, narrow cells for prisoners

It was on April 20th, 2000, after 2 PM, Summertime.
What the astronomical clock tells:

Zytturm, astronomical clock

The longest hand, the one with the with the sun, will make one turn in 365.24 days :
The face is divided into 12 parts, with the first  month following the six-a-clock position. The pictures show the signs of Zodiac.
Hand is over 4th sector, second half: April, 15th to 30th.
Hawk's eyes would recognize the scale on the fringe of the clock face for the day of the month.

The second longest hand with a half moon, makes one turn in 29 days 12 hours plus 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds:
The hand tells the moon days: 2 (On the 18th was Full moon)
Directly under the top windows a rather small Moon ball with a dark and a bright side indicates the moon phase in a simpler way.

The hand with the arrow (on very right), 1 turn in 7 days:
Day of week: 4, (Sunday is at top)

The smallest hand with "S", 1 turn in 4 years:
Leap year: 2000 is a leap year.
